The trees that grow here are Juniper and Pinion trees. As I said before, they remind me of shrubs rather than trees and they seem to grow close together. These are pretty much the only trees that grow in New Mexico and are quite noticeable with their dark green foliage.
This morning we went to see the Georgia O'Keefe museum. The movie they showed was wonderful and I learned that O'Keefe turned 99 years of age; something I hadn't known. It was wonderful that they also showed quite a bit photography of Alfred Stieglitz, O'Keefe's husband, whose photography was famous before O'Keefe made a name for herself and he also had owned the infamous 921 art studio in New York. Disappointing was the lack of paintings from O'Keefe. Oh, there were a few not so well know ones, but certainly not enough to do the museum's name justice. Instead we saw also work from other artists, such as Warhol and Holbein and some that were unfamiliar to me. In all, not bad, but not great.
After walking around, we went to Santa Fe Clay to get some pottery supplies. They didn't have everything I wanted and I decided to try out some new clay for my tiles. It's on the opposite range of porcelain and I am curious how it will work out. I intend to work on a 8x12 tile mural for our shed since I don't want to look at the blank wall once we build our house. Should be fun to look at fish instead. I have two more places on my list where I can get the rest of my supplies before returning to Florida. For today we will rest and enjoy the view and lovely weather, plus I have to work on our plans for tomorrow.
Ein weiterer Tag im Paradies!
Die Baeume, die hier wachsen, sind Juniper und Pinion Baeume (Wacholdertreibradbäume). . Es sind quasi die einzigen Baeume, die in New Mexico wachsen und sie tun das oft nebeneinander. Sie sind sehr dunkelgruen in Farbe und sehen wirklich eher wie Buesche aus.
Heute waren wir das Georgia O'Keefe Museum besuchen. Es war schoen, dass auch viel Photografie von ihrem Mann, Alfred Stieglitz, gezeigt wurde, der lange vor O'Keefe bekannt war und der auch das damals beruemte Kunststudio 921 besass. Der Film, der von O'Keefe gezeigt wurde, war sehr nett und ich lernte, dass sie 99 Jahre alt wurde. Ein schoenes Alter. Das Museum zeigte auch Werke von Warhol und Holbein und anderen Kuenstlern, die mir nicht bekannt waren. Doch sie hatten nicht genuegend bedeutende Werde von O'Keefe um von dem Museum wirklich begeistert zu sein. Aber wir haben es trotzdem genossen.
Wir sind dann ein wenig herumspaziert und suchten das Santa Fe Clay Studio auf, wo auch Lehm und andere Toepfereisachen verkauft wurden. Ich habe leider nicht alles bekommen, was ich einkaufen wollte und ich habe mich entschlossen, eine Lehmart zu kaufen, die so weit wie nur moeglich von Porzellan entfernt ist. Will es ausprobieren fuer die Kacheln, die ich anfertigen will fuer unseren Schuppen, in ca. 2.5x3.7 Meter, damit ich nicht immer die kahle Wand anschauen muss, wenn wir unser Haus bauen. Ich habe noch zwei weitere Toepferlaeden auf meiner Liste bevor wir nach Florida zurueckkehren. Fuer heute haben wir vor, die Aussicht und das schoene Wetter zu geniessen und zudem muss ich meinen Plan fuer morgen aufstellen. Wir haben weiterhin Spass!
