Trip from Ellensburg/Washington to Kamiah/Idaho

We are on our way to Montana to see Don’s relatives, thus unable to avoid driving through high mountains again. After a relaxing night in Ellensburg, we drove through countryside with lush yellow wheat that was in the process of being harvested. Miles and miles of yellow soft hills and then some areas that were plowed under to rest, with mixed colors and absolutely beautiful to look at. 

We also saw a lot of hay and wished we could have brought some to you, Renee.

The last stretch of our way we drove through Lewiston which used to be the capital of Idaho a long time ago. They still have some industry, especially a huge plant to clean and process wheat. Now the capital is Boise which we will bypass.

The last ten miles of our today’s journey was alongside steep hills and next to a fast running river which seemed perfect for rafting. In all, an awesome trip with incredibly wonderful summer weather.

 

Wir sind auf dem Weg nach Montana zu Don’s Tante und Onkel.
Wir fuhren durch Washington, wo gerade Weizen geernet wurde und die Felder wie utopische Landschaften aussahen. Unglaublich schoen! Es hatte auch Felder, die gemixt mit gruen und total gemahlt aussahen. Dies sind Gebiete, die Ruhezeit brauchen bevor sie wieder angebaut werden.

Wir sahen auch viel Futter fuer Pferde, was wir gerne mitgenommen haetten.

Die Aussicht auf Lewiston, was frueher mal die Hauptstadt von Idaho war, war eine Augenweide. Lewiston hat noch viel Industry, vor allem um Weizen zu waschen und zu bearbeiten. Heute ist Boise die Hauptstadt von Idaho, die wir nicht besuchen werden.

Die letzten 16 km vor unserem Halt verbrachten wir auf einer Strasse, die eng an den Bergen und neben einem schnellen Fluss vorbeifuehrten. Traumhaft schoen, aber auch ein wenig aufregend.
