Before we drove to the ferry we were fortunate to see the New Archangel dance group perform for us tourists. The group dances mostly old Russian dances and exists of only women who also dance the parts for men. Danielle is one of these dancers and will perform again after her delivery.
All these ladies do this in their spare time. The money they make will be used for charity, they take great pride in the history of Sitka, and everybody seems to have a lot of fun. I now know what the flag of Alaska looks like (blue with gold stars). New Archangel was the former name of Sitka during the time it was the capital of Alaska.
In all, the place was packed and we enjoyed it very much!
Vor der Abreise hatten wir Gelegenheit, die New Archangel Tanzgruppe anzuschauen. Dies ist die Gruppe, in der Danielle mittanzt und die fuer Touristen ueberwiegend russische Taenze vorfuehren. Danielle wird wieder nach der Geburt mitmachen.
Ich weiss jetzt wie die Fahne von Alaska aussieht (blau mit goldenen Sternen) und wir hatten viel Spass beim Zuschauen. Es sind alles Voluntaertaenzerinnen, Frauen, die auch die Maennerpartien tanzen, und die viel Spass an der Geschichte dieser Gruppe und dem Tanzen haben. New Archangel ist der alte Name von Sitka, was frueher mal die Hauptstadt von Alaska war.
