Louisville, Kentucky

Louisville is the place where much of the famous horse racing happens. No wonder that one can find lots of statues of horses in the city. I was astonished how beautifully they managed to mix old and new architecture in this city and I hope that they will continue renovating some of those beautiful buildings they have here. The city also planted lots of trees which reminded me of Berlin which is considered a green city. I definitely like this city better than St. Louis.

We visited the Louisville Slugger Museum. Don had been here more than once, but it was new to me and although I only really heard of Babe Ruth, whose bat was fabricated here, I enjoyed it. Well for those of you who don't know it (guess none of you), The Slugger Co. is the one who makes most of the bats for the large teams and has fabricated bats for many famous players since 1884. We, of course, bought a bat for our grandson even though it's a little early for him. But what if we never return here?

We had a nice dinner at the river, but in all we were happy to return to the air conditioning in the RV. This heat is taking the fun out of walking around and it is becoming clear, that we are ready to get to Renee and to go home to Florida, even though I'll be packing my suitcase for Germany pretty soon after.

Dies ist der Ort, in dem viele der grossen Pferderennen stattfinden. Kein Wunder, dass man viele Staturen von Pferden in der Stadt findet. Ich bin erstaunt, wie nett diese Stadt neue und alte Architektur miteinander verbunden hat. Auch hat es viele Baeumchen und Pflanzen in Mitte Stadt, was mich an Berlin erinnerte. Man hat gute Anfaenge hier gemacht und ich hoffe, dass noch viel und weiterhin renoviert wird, um die schoenen alten Gebaeude zu erhalten.

Wir besuchten das Louisville Slugger Museum. Seit 1884 fertigt Louisville Slugger Co. Baseballschlaeger fuer die grossen Vereine und fuer viele beruehmte Baseballspieler an. Ich kenne nur Babe Ruth, dessen Schlaeger frueher auch hier hergestellt wurde. War ganz interessant, auch wenn ich nicht viel von Baseball verstehe. Natuerlich haben wir einen Schlaeger gekauft, der fuer einen Jugendlichen geignet ist und Travis's Namen eingebrannt hat. Ich weiss, ist noch ein wenig frueh, aber wer weiss, ob wir nochmal nach Louisville kommen werden.

Danach gingen wir zum Essen in ein Restaurant am Fluss, was nett war. Leider hat die Hitze viel Freude am Rumlaufen weggenommen. Man schnauft nur so und freut sich auf die Kuehlanlage im RV. Ein weiteres Anzeichen, dass wir kaum abwarten koennen, heimzukommen. Es ist halt Zeit!
