On the trip through West Virginia we stopped in Beckley and spent several hours at the Tamarack Artisan Center. We enjoyed beautiful wood carvings, pottery, glass and textile art, and made some purchases. I could have spent more time there but our goal was Lexington with no time to spare. But, if you ever drive through the area, it is worth stopping there!
We arrived in Lexington, Virginia. We know this place since our daughters participated in quite a few horse shows up here. It's a beautiful area and we are happy to make it our last stop before reaching Renee and family in Spotsylvania.
We hoped to watch a horse event at the Lexington Horse Center, but the only event that took place was the ending of an Andalusian and Lusitano horse show. Nothing great, but they must have money since their judge came from Spain, Europe, for this occasion only. The horses were beautiful and I did like the way the guys were dressed while showing their horses.
We ended the day at one of the last ten drive in theatres in the USA. Yes, Lexington happens to have one them! It was packed and we enjoyed our popcorn and soda, while sitting in the open car watching two double features. I guess this brought back memories to Donnie, but we didn't do any of the necking that young people tend to do at these places. What happened to the golden years?
THIS WAS IT!
We will enjoy some time with family and then get back to our home in Florida which will not be part of our sight seeing tour, even though we will go through North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, and from there into Florida. And, we will return with a new addition to our family, Otto, a Harlequin Great Dane!

Gestern Abend verbrachten wir in der Naehe von Ashland/Kentucky wo uns eine Gruppe von Kentucky Hillbillies mit ihrer Gospelmusik den Abend versuessten. Kein schlechter Abschluss bevor wir Virginia erreichen.
Auf der Reise durch West Virginia machten wir Halt in Beckley und verbrachten zwei Stunden am Tamarack Artisan Center. Wir bewunderten Schnitzereien, Toepferarbeiten, Glass und Textilware, und andere Kunstwerke. Ich haette den Tag dort verbringen koennen, doch unser Ziel war Lexington und wir hatten leider nicht mehr Zeit fuer heute.
Wir sind in Lexington, Virginia, angekommen. Wir kennen diese Gegend, da unsere Toechter hier ueber Jahre in Pferdeshows teilgenommen hatten. Es ist eine sehr schoene Gegend und wir sind gluecklich das Lexington unser letzter Stop ist bevor wir Renee und Familie in Spotsylvania erreichen.
Wir besuchten das Lexington Horse Center und schauten uns das Ende einer Andalusian & Lusitano Pferdeshow an. Herrliche Pferde und ich mochte die Kleidung, die von den Herren beim Vorfuehren der Pferde getragen wurde. Nach der Show fuhren wir zum Drive-in Movie Theatre, wo wir den Abend verbrachten. Lexington hat eines der letzten zehn Kinos in den USA, in denen man draussen vom Auto aus Filme anschauen kann. Es war sehr nett und brachte Erinnerungen fuer Donnie. Leider schien sich mein Mann nicht an die Neckereien zu erinnern, die normalerweise in diesen Kinos stattfinden. Wo sind die goldenen Jahre????
Na ja, dies - meine Lieben - dies ist unsere letzte Eintragung und damit endet unser blog. Wir werden eine Zeit mit Familie verbringen und dann via Nord Carolina, Sued Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, und von dort aus nach Florida heimfahren. Mit uns kommt Otto, unser neues Familienmitglied, ein Harlequin Grosser Daene. Ja, wir sind wieder auf den Hund gekommen!
